Friday Devotion, August 21

1 Corinthians 4:6-7

6 Now, brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, “Do not go beyond what is written.” Then you will not take pride in one man over against another. 7 For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?

Quick Notes

Dying. To ourselves, we need to die daily. If we do not, we will have pride. Pride is a devastating thing. If we are not careful, pride can destroy any and all while leaving nothing but dust to rebuild. Our foundation is Christ. Everything we have is something we receive and not because of our own works. Die. Die to yourself so that pride does not destroy you and those around you.

Quick Questions

Have you ever let your pride or ego break a relationship you were in? Do you feel like you deserve better than someone else based on past accomplishments? How often do you die to yourself?

Quick Prayer

O God, you have called me and bid me to die to myself so that Christ can raise me from the dead. May this resurrection be fruitful. Amen.
